Door to Door Salesmen

So... I have a problem. Door-to-Door salesmen! I've gotten a lot better but I'd like to tell you about an experience I had about 6 months ago. But first a little disclaimer. I was a missionary, who went door-to-door and I also spent the summer in Virginia with my husband door-to-door selling. Okay good, maybe that will help me not look like such a fool!

So, back in March, or was it April? (doesn't really matter) Cory was at school and I was hanging out at home, when all of the sudden a knock came at the door. And I opened it to a large black man who told me this long story about how he grew up in poverty, and he didn't graduate high school, and he had a bunch of kids who grew up in poverty who didn't know any better, and how he'd had a ton of problems with being in jail and drugs and the whole works! He explained he was part of a program that helped people like him to turn their life around a get a job. He said basically what he was doing was selling magazines to get points, and he had to get 10,000 points. When he did this, the magazine company would write him a reference letter and then he could try and get an actual job that would actually pay him. So he was going door to door and not even getting paid for it. NOW! another disclaimer! I would just like to say, after working for a disability law firm, I completely support people like this man who want to change their life around. A LIFE that was probably the way it was because of parents, or even grandparents choices! (I'm really getting going aren't I?) SO I BOUGHT A MAGAZINE FROM THE MAN!!!

Well.... then I called Cory and he says, "RAE! What the heck? You forgot your salesman training! And if you forgot that! Why didn't you fall back on what you learned in DARE in the 6th grade!?! JUST SAY NO!!!" When Cory got home he went off on how I would never see the magazine and that we should probably change our bank account number because I wrote a check (I'm an idiot!) and blah blah blah, basically he mocked me constantly.

Every so often I would get a smart remark from Cory about my missing magazines, or that he gets all of his magazines monthly, where is mine? So I came to the resolution that when I die I can feel good about trying to help this man. AND I STAND BY THAT!

6 months later..... I got my Rachael Rae cooking magazine in the mail today! ha ha ha!!!

Nothing says its ABOUT TIME like some BBQ'n!!!

These first two pictures pretty much sum up how all of us felt this weekend.

Can anyone say R&R???
So, a few months back we were hanging out with some of our friends discussing how we never hang out. So leave it to us wives, we calendered a date (a month out) and set in stone that we were going to BBQ and hot tub! And that we did.

We did a BYOM and everyone chipped in a lil something to share. I decided to try my hand at some kabobs!!! Mostly because they're so PRETTY!!!

We also had Cory's family with us. Mom, Dad, two brothers, Dog, and Grandma and Grandpa! The more the merrier at this house.

Here are the husbands talking over the grill. Actually not all of them are cooking, but I think you have to congregate around the grill if you are male. Its just what they do.

YUM!

Oh, just a little food for thought, kabobs shrink, so cut them just a bit bigger than you want them to actually look once they're done grilling. Why does it even matter what they look like when they're done cooking? It just does!

This is the gang. The Dent family (well, practically... kinda), the Stouts, and the Waters!

Except for a little micro burst wind storm that tried to dampen the goodness of the whole dang evening, it was a success!

Cant wait to BBQ again, and we must before the summer is over. So if any of you want to party, just say so!!!

Oh, and just a random story. We got a gift card from T-Mobile the day that I was going CRAZY CLEANING LADY TORNADO STYLE and of course I misplaced it. AFTER ALREADY turning the house upside down, I did it again looking for the dang card. Cory was so sure that I threw it away that he went and fished our garbage out of the big bin and searched ( I knew it wasn't in there). After a few days of searching I called T-Mobile, they canceled the card, and sent a new one out. TWO DAYS later, I thought... "hmmm, maybe I should read the Ensign" And low and behold, the dang card was in between the Ensign and the New Era! Life lesson learned, THE CHURCH IS TRUE! Read your ENSIGN's!!!

The Boys are Back in Town!!!

Cory's brother Tyler just recently came home from Ghana, Africa after serving a two year mission! Cory and I have only been together for a little less than two years, so I had never even met the other member of the Waters family! (I'm still deciding if its real, or if Brad and Sheila just adopted a white boy from Africa).

But I do have to admit that Cory and Jared now seem complete with their 3rd Mousekateer!

Family Vacation with all 27.5 of us!!!

Every other year my family does a big family vacation to Lake Powell and Grover. How is this different than any other weekend? Well Lake Powell for one, and two.... 6 whole days in the best place in the world!

This is me and Har Har, this is my little sister Sarah's oldest. She is pregnant with your second little girl... hence the .5 in the title.

Grandma Nise and Sage

Karen, Bridger, Gabe, Emilee, and Harley

Everywhere we went Harley would say "EGABE" or "EANNIE"! She loves the "KIDS!!!"

Thursday we took off to Lake Powell. I didn't get any photos, but we did stop at our breakfast spot at Blondies. That place is downright awesome! My family used to always go to the HITE marina of Lake Powell. But the last five years or so the water has been to low there and they shut it down. Well, with all of this moisture Utah has had, we did some researching and found out that the HITE marina has been opened yet again. But the nice ladies at Blondies told us it was closed, and as we were driving to the marina we didn't see any boats.... cue panic! BUT when we got down there we found out that the locals are trying to keep it secret that its open so no one will come. Which was great for us this weekend because we were literally the only boat on the lake on Thursday.

This is a picture of a bush. What you cant see is what is in that bush. A RATTLE SNAKE!!! We spent the whole entire afternoon with a Rattle Snake on our beach and were so very blessed that we didn't get into trouble with it. We had no idea it was even there, other than my 15 year old nephew Taylor swearing he heard rattling! Dont worry, we all made fun of him, but we all were quick to so SORRY when 12 hours later we realized he was right! The thing literally slithered right past my leg and my brother lit off a flower firework and the noise or the heat or vibration or whatever cause the snake to rattle and I sounded the alarm!!! By jumping up on my chair and screaming "RATTLE SNAKE RATTLE SNAKE!!!" the men jumped in to action to locate and kill the snake while the woman either jumped on their chairs (eh hem) or herded the children away from its bush!!! It was freaky! And all night long I had my legs up in my camping chair. The worst was when pregnant Sarah couldn't hold it anymore and had to go and squat to pee! She was so scared!!!

That is where we camped! It was amazing!

I dont know what it is about boating food, but I've never tasted anything as good as it! Whatever it may be! This dish? TACO SALAD

Uncle Dan teaching the kids to skip rocks

Dan and April

Grandpa playing with the babies on the tube

Sage learned how to do a 360 on the knee board! WAHOO!!!

Harley on a Harley

Back at the cabin all the rest of the family met up with us! I love it!!!

We had a RODEO/CARNIVAL on Saturday. Let me tell you it was quit the event!

We had ladder/ football throwing!

A Ring Toss

We had a bobbing for balloons with colored marbles in them contest. Each marble represented a certain amount of money.

For every activity you participated in you got a ticket to put your name on for a drawing

We did barrel racing, kids on a stick horse....

and adults on bikes!!!

There was relay racing on the pond!

and canoing as well!

Who gave this man a baby???And the PINATA!!! I know what it looks like, no the baby wasn't the pinata, this was after the beating of the pinata!

Later on the rodeo queens came out!

After that all the kids morphed in to dogs and did tricks in the tubes!

I LOVE this picture! All the kids sitting down to watch a movie, and fighting to stay awake to spend as much time together as possible.

Sunday we had our horse shoe tournement. The only game my parents can win without rigging!

This picture is pretty great too! This is Monday, right before we were leaving. All the kids were pretty sad, so leave it to Grandpa Kevin to help them out by taking them on one last ride on the "vroom vrooms".

We tend to vacation to Grover A LOT!!! Some people think we're crazy and that there is so much more to see in the world. While I totally agree there is something so magical about Grover, it literally draws the kid out of you! I will forever be grateful to my parents for working so hard so that we could have this amazing place to go to whenever we want! The family vacation of 2011, in my eyes, was a 100% hit!!!
